Without doubt one of the most unique experiences in the world - high quality, technical, rock climbing high above a major city...with ocean views as well! Besides the integral-ascent all other options include abseiling. Note that all routes on Table Mountain are Traditional (no bolts), and our guides are certified to this level in all cases.
Below are some common Guided Rock Climbs on Table Mounatin ...

A traditional "ascent" of Table Mountain North Face - from bottom to top. This gives a great sense of having climbed Table Mountain and involves hiking then rock-climbing then some more hiking and then finish with more rock climbing. Total height-gain c650m with 8 pitches of rock climbing. We then descend via Cable Car, if it is running, else a 1hour walk down. An early start is required to avoid the sun.

{tab General}

Table Mountain (read wikipedia) is as iconic as The Matterhorn and just happens to have a modern, cosmopolitan, city at its feet - Cape Town. Not only does Cape Town have gorgeous beaches and amazing wine, but mountain playgrounds are easily found, Table Mountain being the most iconic and certainly the most accessible. The Rock Climbing is predominantly located on the Northern (city) and Western (Atlantic) faces, each offering excellent and technical multi pitch traditional climbing above uniquely spectacular views.

But don't just take our word for it:

"I hate to say it, as a Brit, but maybe the trad climbing in South Africa is the best in the world" - Steve McClure

Vertigo Adventures offer full and half day climbs on Table Mountain. Generally speaking there are two, main, iteneraries:

  • Cable Car up and down and then climb 2 multi pitch routes on the main, top, rockband (this is dependent on the cable car running). This option eliminates the hiking/walking from the option below and therefore a higher volume of pure tech rock climbing. There are a good selection of routes to satisfy a variety of grades - from beginner to advanced - and weather dependant one can climb in the sun or the shade all day by varying the aspect. Routes are usually 4 pitches in length, and at least one route involves a hanging-stance. The added bonus are two very scenic 50m+ abseil's (rappel's)
  • Hike and climb up the front of Table mountain directly under the cable car. This involves +-6 pitches of rock climbing and then hiking/scrambling between the rock bands. This option gives a greater sense of having "climbed Table Mountain" and is more suited to those with a high degree of walking fitness who are not looking for technically difficult rock climbing. Note: During the summer months this option requires an early (6am) start to avoid the sun. Usually this is a 7 hour undertaking, and water and snacks are definitely needed.

Both of the above can accommodate beginners, intermediates, kids and adults alike. A less common option, and certainly more remote, is:

  • Long multi-pitch route on the Twelve Apostles. This option is wilder and more away from people and the city. This is a long day and not suitable for novice and/or those who are not very fit. The trade off is an increase in adventure feeling but a decrease in clean, technical rock climbing. While we do use a rope for 12 odd pitches, much of the climbing is very easy, and as the route is more out of the way, it tends to be a little dirtier. Note: this route is not suitable for kids. Being a ways from any amenities, full hiking and climbing gear (good selection of clothing and food/water) needs to be carried to as well as UP the route.
